About us

A decade-long pursuit, built into a platform.

Tarka is a fully developed fintech platform built with artificial intelligence and machine learning to leverage data and enable smarter investments in agribusiness.

Our story

Where the idea came from.

Our team spent fifteen years working in agriculture across Africa and Asia — with smallholder farmers, aggregators, supplier-companies and institutions. The same problem surfaced in every geography: the finance and the farming never met in one place.

Capital could not see the field. Farmers could not reach the capital. Markets could not verify what they were buying. Tarka is the answer we built after a decade of pursuing an alternative asset management ecosystem for agriculture — reinvigorated by the pressing need to align ourselves with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Our team has executed successful pilots in India, Malaysia, Sierra Leone, Zambia, Ghana and Benin, delivering results before asking anyone to invest in the model.

What is Tarka

An agri-fintech platform that democratises farming.

Tarka is our innovative agri-fintech platform — an alternative crop management ecosystem for agriculture, conceptualised to democratise farming by making agri-investing simpler.

Tarka’s alternative asset management ecosystem will directly impact livelihoods and aims to transform the lives of more than five million smallholder farmers in the coming years. It creates access to invest in agriculture projects for investors of many kinds — funds, fund of funds, family offices, multilateral agencies and retail investors.

The underlying function of managing the asset classes is performed by implementation partners and aggregators, who work directly with farmers and supplier-companies. The impact of Tarka extends beyond agriculture, contributing to employment generation, food and nutritional security, and climate-safe practices. With active operations in more than ten countries, Tarka intends to grow and offer its services globally.

How it works

The approach, in four moves.

Structure the asset class

Each Tarka asset class is a special investment vehicle built around a specific crop and a specific geography — so risk, seasonality and market access are understood before a single dollar is committed.

Open access to capital

Funds, fund of funds, family offices, multilateral agencies and retail investors subscribe to the vehicle through the platform, with the underlying crop cycle as the productive asset.

Deploy through partners on the ground

Implementation partners and aggregators who work directly with farmers and supplier-companies manage cultivation — inputs, agronomic supervision, harvest and aggregation.

Close the loop with data

AI and machine learning models, analytics and farm management tools increase yield, optimise operations and give investors and markets traceability and provenance from field to buyer.
